Downloading a Venmo statement
Venmo’s help describes two ways to get a statement as a CSV file:
- On the website: sign in at venmo.com, open Statements in the sidebar, choose the month and year (click the year at the top of the menu to change it), and click Download CSV.
- In the app: open Settings › Statements, choose the month and year, and download or email the file.
The Venmo statement layout
A Venmo statement CSV starts with a few account lines (such as your username), then the table:
| Column | Used for |
|---|---|
| ID | The payment’s ID in the QBO file |
| Datetime | The date (the time is dropped) |
| Type, Status | Type is used as the payee when there is no other person |
| Note | The memo |
| From, To | The payee: the other person |
| Amount (total) | The amount, written like + $12.50 or - $450.00 |
The table also has tip, tax, fee, funding source, destination and balance columns, and ends with balance and disclaimer lines. The converter finds the table by its column names, so the number of lines above it doesn’t matter.
Venmo in QuickBooks
Venmo isn’t a bank in Intuit’s bank lists, so the QBO file uses the widely compatible bank ID. Import it into the account you keep for Venmo in QuickBooks. Payments you receive show as money in, payments you send and transfers to your bank as money out.
Supported banks and file layouts
Any bank's CSV or Excel file
The converter finds the header row (even below bank names and account summaries), matches columns by name and by content, and handles one signed amount column, separate debit and credit columns, or an amount with a DR/CR column. Dates like 01/05/2026, 2026-01-05 and Jan 5, 2026 and amounts like (1,234.56) or 1234.56- are all read.

Common problems and fixes
- I have several monthly statements
- Venmo statements cover one month each. Use merge QBO files to combine the months into one file; it reads Venmo CSV files directly.
- A transfer to my bank has no name
- Transfers to a bank have no other person, so the converter uses Venmo's transaction type (for example "Standard Transfer") as the payee.
- The balance and disclaimer lines are missing
- Those lines aren't transactions. The converter leaves out rows without a transaction ID and date, and Show skipped rows lists them.
- The times are missing
- Venmo writes the date and time together; QBO files use the date only.
Venmo statement CSV vs QBO
| Venmo CSV | QBO file | |
|---|---|---|
| Amounts | Text like + $12.50 or - $450.00 | Plain numbers, negative for money out |
| Lines above the table | Username and other account lines | None |
| Payee | From and To columns | The other person |
| Imported by QuickBooks Web Connect | No | Yes |
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a Venmo CSV to QBO?
Download the statement CSV from Venmo, drop it into the converter above, check the transactions, keep QBO and download.
Which Venmo column becomes the payee?
The other person in each payment, From when you received money and To when you sent it. The note you wrote goes in the memo.
Are Venmo's transaction IDs kept?
Yes. Each payment's Venmo ID becomes its ID in the QBO file, so QuickBooks can skip payments it has already imported.
Does it read older Venmo statements?
The converter recognizes Venmo's current statement layout. Older statements have slightly different columns; if one isn't recognized, check the date, description and amount columns yourself.
Is my Venmo statement uploaded?
No. It is read and converted in your browser and never leaves your computer.
