How to convert a Stripe CSV to QBO

  1. Export the balance report from Stripe In the Stripe Dashboard, open Reports › Balance, go to Balance change from activity, click Export, and choose CSV with the itemized format.
  2. Drop the file into the converter The converter recognizes Stripe's columns, in any order, and shows "Stripe balance report" next to the file.
  3. Check the transactions Each line uses the net amount (after Stripe's fee). Charges are money in; refunds, fees and payouts to your bank are money out.
  4. Choose QBO and the bank Stripe isn't in Intuit's bank lists, so keep the widely compatible option and import into the account you keep for Stripe.
  5. Download the QBO file Click Download QBO file and import it. The steps appear right after the download.

How to import the QBO file into QuickBooks

These steps follow Intuit's current help pages. Back up your company file first; Intuit notes that an import can't be undone.

QuickBooks Desktop for Windows

  1. Sign in to your Intuit account Intuit requires you to be signed in inside QuickBooks Desktop to import .qbo files.
  2. Open the import Choose Banking › Bank Feeds › Import Web Connect Files, select the .qbo file and click Open.
  3. Choose the account Choose Use an existing account if the account is already in QuickBooks, or Create a new QuickBooks account. Click Continue, then OK.
  4. Add the transactions Review them in the Bank Feeds Center and add them.

If the import fails, Intuit's fixes include switching to Classic Mode: Banking › Bank Feeds › Change Bank Feeds Mode.

QuickBooks Desktop for Mac

  1. Open the import Choose Banking › Downloaded Transactions › Import File.
  2. Pick the file Select the .qbo file.
  3. Choose the account If QuickBooks asks, pick the matching account under Store in the QuickBooks Account, then click Continue and OK.

  2. Choose Upload from file Select the account's tile if you see one, open Link account and choose Upload from file.
  3. Pick the file and the account Select the .qbo file and click Continue. Choose the account in the QuickBooks account list and click Continue.

Exporting the balance report from Stripe

Stripe’s documentation describes the export: in the Dashboard, open Reports, then Balance. In the Balance change from activity section, click Export, choose CSV and the itemized format. You can choose which columns the file has; the converter needs the defaults (or at least the ID, date, amount and category columns).

The Stripe balance report columns

ColumnUsed for
balance_transaction_idThe line’s ID in the QBO file
created (or created_utc)The date
currencyNot used (choose the currency under Account settings)
gross, fee, netNet becomes the amount
reporting_categoryThe memo, and the description when there is none
descriptionThe description

Amounts are in the main currency unit (dollars for USD), and negative amounts are money leaving your Stripe balance, such as refunds, fees and payouts. Stripe has changed the column names over time (created_utc in older reports, created in newer ones); both are recognized.

Stripe in QuickBooks

Stripe isn’t a bank in Intuit’s bank lists, so the QBO file uses the widely compatible bank ID. Import it into the account you keep for Stripe in QuickBooks. Each payout to your bank then shows as money out of Stripe and, in your bank account’s own download, as money in.

Supported banks and file layouts

Any bank's CSV or Excel file

The converter finds the header row (even below bank names and account summaries), matches columns by name and by content, and handles one signed amount column, separate debit and credit columns, or an amount with a DR/CR column. Dates like 01/05/2026, 2026-01-05 and Jan 5, 2026 and amounts like (1,234.56) or 1234.56- are all read.

Common problems and fixes

The file wasn't recognized as a Stripe report
The converter looks for the balance report's columns (balance_transaction_id, gross, fee, net and reporting_category). Stripe's Payments export has different columns; export the balance report instead, or check the columns yourself.
A payout has no description
Stripe leaves the description empty on some lines, such as payouts. The converter uses the reporting category (for example "payout") as the description.
The amounts include fees
The converter uses the net column, which is the gross amount minus Stripe's fee. The gross and fee columns stay in your CSV.
The times are missing
Stripe writes a date and time; QBO files use the date only.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a Stripe CSV to QBO?

Export the itemized balance report as CSV from the Stripe Dashboard, drop it into the converter above, check the transactions, keep QBO and download.

Which Stripe report should I use?

The balance report's "Balance change from activity" section, itemized. Stripe's support recommends it for accounting and reconciliation.

Why are payouts negative?

A payout moves money out of your Stripe balance to your bank, so in the Stripe account it is money out. In your bank account it arrives as money in.

Are Stripe's IDs kept?

Yes. Each line's balance transaction ID becomes its ID in the QBO file, so QuickBooks can skip lines it has already imported.

Is my Stripe report uploaded?

No. It is read and converted in your browser and never leaves your computer.
