Downloading transactions from Chase

Chase’s own article about its Spending Planner says that on a computer you can download transactions as a spreadsheet (CSV), Quicken (QFX), QIF or QuickBooks (QBO) file for the last two years, while the Chase Mobile app gives PDF statements. Chase doesn’t publish a click-by-click guide on a public page: sign in on chase.com, open the account’s activity, and look for the download option. Download one account at a time and choose CSV.

The Chase CSV layouts

Checking and savings:

ColumnWhat it holds

Posting DateMM/DD/YYYY
DescriptionThe transaction text
AmountSigned: money out is negative
TypeCodes such as ACH_DEBIT, ACH_CREDIT, DEBIT_CARD, FEE_TRANSACTION
BalanceThe balance after the transaction (blank on some rows)
Check or Slip #The check or deposit slip number

Every row ends with an extra empty field after the last column; the converter ignores it.

Credit cards: Transaction Date, Post Date, Description, Category, Type, Amount, Memo. Purchases (Type “Sale”) are negative and payments positive. Older card files start with a Card column; both forms are recognized.

Picking the bank for the QBO file

QuickBooks checks the bank ID in a QBO file. Intuit’s QuickBooks bank list has two Chase entries, “Chase Web Download” (02430) and “Chase Bank All - New” (69560, bank accounts only); search for Chase in the bank list to pick one, or keep the widely compatible option. For Quicken (QFX), Intuit’s Quicken list has “Chase” (10898).

Supported banks and file layouts

Any bank's CSV or Excel file

The converter finds the header row (even below bank names and account summaries), matches columns by name and by content, and handles one signed amount column, separate debit and credit columns, or an amount with a DR/CR column. Dates like 01/05/2026, 2026-01-05 and Jan 5, 2026 and amounts like (1,234.56) or 1234.56- are all read.

Common problems and fixes

The file wasn't recognized as a Chase layout
If you opened the file in Excel and saved it, the columns may have changed. Use the file as Chase made it, or check the date, description and amount columns yourself; the converter reads any layout.
An older Chase card file has a "Card" column first
That is an older form of the Chase card layout, and it is recognized too. The card number column is left out of the converted file.
QuickBooks says it can't verify the financial institution
Try the other Chase entry in the bank list, or the widely compatible option, and download again. The QBO file checker shows which bank ID a file has.
Some rows have no balance
Chase leaves the balance blank on some rows. The balance isn't needed for the QBO file, so nothing is lost.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a Chase CSV to QBO?

Download the CSV from Chase's website on a computer, drop it into the converter above, check the transactions, choose QBO and download.

Chase already offers QBO downloads. Why convert the CSV?

If Chase's QBO file imports well for you, use it. Converting the CSV lets you check and edit every transaction first, merge accounts, or make a QuickBooks Online CSV, QFX or Excel file instead.

Do I need to flip signs for a Chase credit card?

No. Chase card files list purchases as negative numbers and payments as positive ones, which is what a QBO file for a card account expects.

Which date does the converter use?

The posting date (Posting Date for checking, Post Date for cards). You can switch to the transaction date under Change columns.

How far back can I download?

Chase says its website offers downloads for the last two years.

Is my Chase file uploaded?

No. The file is read and converted in your browser and never leaves your computer.
